EXPLORE THE BEAUTIFUL ISLAND OF NISYROS
Visit the most accessible volcano in the Mediterranean, stay for the great swimming and stunning views
Nisyros is one of the most beautiful Aegean islands, still untouched by the tourism growth. It stands out for its picturesque corners and tranquil atmosphere.
The island is situated between Kos and Tilos. It extends over a surface of 41 km and its coastline is 28 km long. It can be reached by ferry from Piraeus, Kos and Rhodes
Nisyros is famous for its Volcano, the explosions of which shaped the island, and is considered to be the youngest volcanic centre in Greece, still active.
Nisyros’s volcano is one of the few anywhere in the world that can be easily visited. Anyone can make the short drive to the site and then spend hours wandering around the hydrothermal craters.
Nisyros beaches are clean and peaceful, ideal for those who want to enjoy long relaxing days by the sea. Pachia Ammos is a favorite choice for the more ‘free spirited’. The beach is a 15 minute walk from the nearest parking spot. A little further away is Liès. You can swim at Hohlakoi with its large, round stones only a short walk from the port of Mandraki.
Visit the picturesque villages
Apart from being the capital of the island, Mandraki is also its harbour. It is one of the biggest villages on Nisyros with many available tourism facilities.
Located 8 km east of Mandraki, Emporios stands out for its houses’ architecture
Porta is the main square of Nikia, where the church of Eisodion tis Theotokou is located; one of the most gorgeous churches of Greece!
For those of a non-beachy disposition, there are many activities to do on the island, such as island hopping to the nearby Kos, nature exploration and strolling around Mandraki, the island’s center of activities.
